The design of the proposed new house utilizes the remnants of the incomplete house and the footprint as a departure point. The new design embraces the opportunities of a site offering magnificent views of the surrounding mountains, focusing and framing the view towards the Simonsberg mountains and the surrounding Hottentots Holland mountains. A new route behind the dam to the new house is created to enhance the drama of the experience , arriving at the upper levels of the house where one is presented with a simple composition of forms, before entering into the house through the internal courtyard with the element of water, a beautiful sculpture before the experience of the house opening up to the Simonsberg reveals itself....leading out onto various outdoor "pavilions" extending the living experience further into the valleyARUBA - SOCIAL HOUSING

These 2 holiday houses on the coastline of Peru which sit prominently at the top of a rock cliff overlooking the beach and ocean, are anchored into the rock with a stone sculptural plinth rising up to the living levels, concealing a basement floor below.Intrinsic to the Peruvian culture in the making of the building concepts of natural to artificial, from organic to geometric, from heavy to light, from dense to transparent prevail.

Commissioned to design a home for a young, modern couple in the fashion business, reflective of their tastes and lifestyle. Key to the design was the main livings entertaining areas of the house which are raised and located on the first floor to take advantage of the beautiful views towards the ocean. Complementary areas on the lower ground floor are placed around a sculptural courtyard.
The entrance, with its lofty proportions and water feature, is a calm meditative space before the transition up to the main living areas, where the beach and ocean beyond is revealed across a 15m lap pool. Elegant, simple, monochromatic palette of finishes with polished concrete floors, textured concrete, stainless steel, touches of natural grey stone and dark glass animate the spaces.

Kgwanyape Energy 1
This project was for the conversion of an existing factory building in Pinetown Industria in KZN for an energy-saving electronics company. The scheme was to comprise manufacturing facilities as well as a substantial administration and office component.
Owing to complications that arose with the acquisition of the property, the scheme was terminated in its infancy.

Two units were designed on this very compact site perched above the water at the exclusive Balie Bay. Each unit consisted of 4 bedrooms and living spaces, pool and terraces all laid out to make the most of the views of Lions Head and the bay immediately in front of it whilst sheltering the building from the trademark summer winds of the Cape.

Conceived of as a discreet and super-stylish location and getaway on the Camps Bay strip, this project is set to become the destination of choice for those in the know.
A unique palette of granite, slate, timber and glass has been brought together in elegant simplicity in an attempt to make rooms and relaxation spaces desirable to those who appreciate stylish accommodation backed up by discreet, luxurious service.
Add to that the fact that all that makes Camps Bay the international destination of choice, this project is set to redefine the boutique accommodation business in Cape Town and set the benchmark for those going forward.

This double dwelling is designed to make the most of a site that offers unobstructed views of Table Mountain, the 12 Apostles behind and the signature views of Camps Bay, Lions Head and the horizon in front.
The respective units offer different lifestyles; a "family" unit on the ground floor and first floors that lives to the pool, terraces as well as a generous garden and the "lifestyle" unit with the panoramic terraces and suspended pool suited. The project is scheduled for completion in early 2010 and both units are available for purchase or rental.

An old, nondescript house was demolished to make way for this low-slung beach house that sits discreetly in its beachfront dune environment. Designed to offer shelter from the winds of the area when necessary yet take in the uninterrupted beach frontage the location enjoys, the house is the epitome of coastal holiday living.

Constantia Forest House
On a beautiful, tree-filled sloping site in Constantia, this family home was designed around the slope of the site and the views offered back towards Constantia Nek. The house was laid out around a series of large stone and concrete walls and lived in the spaces between these.
Owing to issues in wrapping up the estate and resultant complications associated with actual ownership of the land, the project was put on hold indefinitely.

A substantial alteration of an old Camps Bay house that backs on to the Table Mountain National Park reserve, this site offered 360-degree views of the mountain behind and Ocean in front.
Boulders epitomize the mountainside location of the property. The house perches on a rocky outcrop and a signature element is the bridge that links the main terrace to the boulder beyond.

Terrace House
Located in Camps Bay, the existing house afforded us the opportunity to take an ordinary single storey ī50s "box" and create a home that realised the potential offered by the site.
The house has a large double volume over the interior living areas. Linking the upper part of the house is a staircase that journeys through the interior giving glimpses to the exterior spaces and garden. There are two exterior living terraces - one on the upper level onto which the bedrooms have access and the other larger pool terrace on the living level. Trees that are reminiscent of ancient prehistoric columns are integrated into the building through the curved portion of the terrace projecting out into the trees. Wood as a theme is introduced as a key material in the overall design and finish of the building and is integrated in the interior together with screens, pergolas and other external features.

Inspired by the natural beauty of Camps Bay, Cape Town, this unique and luxurious penthouse offers breathtaking views over the Twelve Apostle mountains and the Atlantic Ocean.
The outdoor entertainment area has an 8-meter glass fronted swimming pool and spoils one with outdoor living at its best. The interior offers five luxury en-suite bedrooms and an open plan kitchen / lounge / dining area finished to the highest standard.
Ebb Tide, Barley Bay
Recently featured on Top Billing, the four apartments are located on the northern edge of one of Cape Townīs most spectacular locations, Barley Bay. The site offers views across the bay and sweeping around the Atlantic Ocean horizon towards Lions Head.The brief was to design a building both contemporary and challenging to the typical approach in the area for similar buildings. The design provides for 2 apartments of 2 bedrooms on the lowest level with more luxurious 3 & 4 bedroomed duplex apartments on the upper levels. The living areas of the larger units are raised to the upper level, taking advantage of the superb views. All the units have outdoor living areas with their own private decks, terraces and swimming pools. The finish of each apartment is of the highest standards with the emphasis on understated and discreetly detailed interiors.
Llandudno House
Perched on the slopes at the top of the prestigious suburb of Llandudno, this project was a conversion of an existing house that included a large volume originally intended as a future squash court. This served as the inspiration for a double volume living area that cascades out onto the sunny living and pool terraces.

This compact and easy flowing home in beautiful Bantry Bay, Cape Town was originally a just small house. It was transformed into a home with generous spaces with abundant light and volume. The client, the Department of Public Works, approached us to to design and construct a primary school for one of the in an area of the Cape flats for lower income groups. The Department was looking for innovative and creative architectural firms to provide new imaginative solutions as part of an expansive programme under way to construct a number of urgently needed schools.
The building has become a welcome addition to the community that use the facilities for a variety of purposes . We wanted to shift the attention of the users towards a building that not only addresses the functional aspects of a school, but also offered up the opportunity to explore with the eye and mind.
